Abstract

This article examines relevant features of leadership in the Native Indian context and applies a model of leadership to some of the valued qualities arid behavior of Native Indian leaders as identified by a review of the literature and interviews with three Native Indian leaders. Indeed Native Indian leadership does have some unique features, which are outlined in the article. The results of this study may be useful for further research, for Native Indian education programs (like Ts’‘kel, offered at UBC), and for other leadership training workshops where a knowledge of leadership in the Native Indian education context would be useful.
