Initial Teacher Education in Aotearoa/New Zealand

From a personal and professional perspective, the author describes the challenges thatMaori teacher education programs have faced in order to be granted accreditation.The process has involved the need to sensitize government agencies about theparticular needs of rural and Maori communities and the creation of an approach toteacher education based on respect for diversity and sensitivity to communityorientations and values.
