Opening Doors to the Future: Applying Local Knowledgein Curriculum Development

This article discusses and illustrates the underlying pedagogic and inquiry basedtheoretical frameworks that were used to guide the development o f the Forests for theFuture science curriculum materials. The rationale for linking local traditionalecological knoivledge, local understanding o f knowledge construction and scienceeducation is highlighted. This science curriculum is one beneficial outcome ofmeaningfully linking anthropological research with Tsimshian communityeducational needs.
