RotoruaThe Te Kohanga Reo (Language Nests) programs, initiated in Aotearoa/New Zealandin 1982, are perhaps the best known international example of Indigenous earlychildhood language and culture revitalization efforts. From an academic perspective,the author explores the philosophical principles and foundations of the Te KohangaReo movement as well as the challenges and successes of one such program based inRotorua.
