Hwunitum and Hwulmuhw or My Experiences in an Organizational Change Project

Abstract

In May 2001 the Cowichan Valley School District signed an Aboriginal EducationImprovement Agreement with the British Columbia Ministry of Education and theFirst Nations on whose traditional territory the District is situated. ThisImprovement Agreement was the result of the collaborative work of many people overmany years. Through the eyes of one person this article looks at the process involvedin changing the culture of an organization to become more receptive and aware of theneeds of Aboriginal students through including Aboriginal people morefidly in thedecision-making processes.
