Abstract

The author describes how American Indian people in the United States have been assuming control of their schools over the last two decades. He gives special atten­tion to recent initiatives, including the Native American Languages Act, the United States Secretary of Education's Indian Nations at Risk Task Force, and the White House Conference on Indian Education.
