Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The author has prepared a suggested peer reviewer document in which there is list of unbiased, qualified individuals that would serve as suitable peer reviewers for the article in question.
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

The STEM Fellowship Journal accepts the article types listed below. Other article types may be considered if they meet the journal's standards of scientific merit and rigor. To submit a paper not described by one of the below categories, please contact submissions@stemfellowship.org

Original Articles

Original articles should be original student(s)' work and accomplished with or without a mentor’s help. It should contain experimental data or collected information and should report novel results. 

Orignal articles should contain the following sections

  • Title Page
  • Keywords
  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusions (optional)
  • Acknowledgements
  • Reference list
  • Appendices (optional)

Review Articles

Review articles provide a detailed critical review of a specific area of study based on the existing literature, including meaningful synthesis. 

Review articles should contain the following sections:

  • Title Page
  • Keywords
  • Abstract
  • Introduction
  • Conclusions 
  • Acknowledgements
  • Reference list
  • Appendices (optional)

Ethical Guidelines

All research carried out using animals must adhere to appropriate ethical principles and have approval from an institution’s animal research or ethics board, if it exists. A signed statement from all authors affirming this, or else proof of institutional approval, will be required for each paper that reports research in which animals were used.

All research carried out using human subjects must adhere to appropriate ethical principles and have approval from an institution’s research ethics board. Proof of institutional approval will be required for each paper that reports research in which human subjects were used.
