Résumé

This article examines the limits of approaching Asian Canadian filmmaking in primarily authorial and textual terms. Drawing insights from recent transnational analyses in film studies, the article explores filmmaking practices in the transpacific city of Vancouver and proposes the study of film location as an alternative methodology for Asian Canadian cultural critique.

Helen Hok-Sze Leung, Simon Fraser University

Helen Hok-Sze Leung is an Associate Professor of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies at Simon Fraser University. During 2015-6, she is a visiting scholar at the University of Melbourne. Her books include Undercurrents: Queer Culture and Postcolonial Hong Kong and Farewell My Concubine: A Queer Film Classic.
