About the Journal
The Undergraduate Journal of Art History & Visual Culture (UJAH) is an annual student journal published by the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory (AHVA) at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. The publication promotes undergraduate research, artwork, and writing in the field of art history and visual culture.
Established in 2009, UJAH has flourished under the efforts of its dedicated student editors as a platform for undergraduate scholarly achievement. With the support of AHVA , and through partnerships with the Art History Students’ Association (AHSA) and the Visual Art Students’ Association (VASA), the journal expanded its creative content and publication into print in 2015, with Issue 6.
The objective of the journal is to provide UBC undergraduate students with a wider audience for their research and writing, encourage community between various art disciplines, and establish a platform upon which students can gain experience in editing and publishing their academic and creative work.
Typically, UJAH seeks applications for undergraduate students of all disciplines to join the editorial team in early September. During this time, we also seek submissions of academic papers, reviews, and artwork. Essays and reviews undergo a multi-stage editing process by members of our editorial team. We publish the annual issue every April to coincide with the end of the academic year, alongside such events as the Art History Undergraduate Symposium and the BFA/BA Visual Art Graduating Exhibition.
