About the Journal
Slow Mode Journal (SMJ), founded and co-edited by Alexandra Peck and T’ai Smith (Department of Art History, Visual Art & Theory), emanates from the Slow Fashion Research Cluster at the University of British Columbia. Initiated by Germaine Koh (the cluster's PI) in 2024, the cluster develops new, sustainable approaches to garment production while motivating audiences to change their consumption habits and reduce textile waste. The cluster, which includes faculty members across the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Applied Science, in addition to external researchers, producers, and industry partners, has been supported by UBC's Vice President & Innovation Research Office and Public Humanities Hub.
