About the Journal

This website serves as an archived catalogue of Ignite Volumes 1–7 (2009–2015). For information on current and upcoming publications as of 2026, please visit our main website: https://ubcjgrsj.wordpress.com/

Ignite is a student-led, peer-reviewed undergraduate journal supported by the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality & Social Justice at the University of British Columbia. As an interdisciplinary publication, it provides a platform for students to share a wide range of critical and creative work, including academic writing, poetry, and visual art.

We welcome submissions that engage with diverse experiences and systems of privilege and oppression, including racism, settler-colonialism, sexism, classism, ableism, ageism, homophobia, and transphobia. The journal serves as a unique academic and artistic forum that highlights the critical insight and expressive capacity of UBC students.
