Mike Borkent is a doctoral candidate at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. He studies cognitive approaches to multimodal literatures and poetry, focusing especially on North American comics, graphic novels, and visual poetry. He recently co-edited a volume on Language and the Creative Mind (CSLI 2013) with Barbara Dancygier and Jennifer Hinnell, and has authored two papers on visual poetry, “Illusions of Simplicity” (2010), which was reprinted in 2012, and "Visual Improvisation" (2014). He was also the head developer and collaborative author of CanLit Guides (www. canlitguides.ca) for the journal Canadian Literature (2011-14).
