Abstract
Neologisms reflect and reinforce the values and perspectives of the cultures that create them. Active mobility culture has developed its own lexicon to facilitate thematic communication, including the term “cyclogeography”, the sensory experience of encountering the natural and anthropogenic worlds while riding a bicycle. We examine this particular neologism and extrapolate the application of the ‘cyclo-’ prefix to several neologisms, i.e. cyclopolitic, cycloidentity, cyclosensuality, etc. We discuss some possible meanings and suggest implications of these new words within an active mobility culture. Ultimately, we propose that defining, validating, and encouraging adoption of these ‘cyclo-’ words has a positive impact in communicating and reinforcing facets of a sustainable active mobility culture.
