A Colonial Library: The Books in the Point Ellice House Collection

Abstract

Among the artifacts in the Point Ellice House collection are 450 books that were used by the O'Reilly family over the three generations they occupied the house. Examining the books reveals much about the value of literacy in colonial Victoria, and everyday life for the middle/upper class settler family.
