Abstract

Early explore and settler accounts mention a white clay-like powder used in preparing Mountain Goat and Salsih Woolly dog fibres for spinning.  This paper looks at these accounts to try to clarify what the clay-like powder is, why it was used and where it comes from.

I am currently doing a Master's Certificate in spinning ( a six year program through Old's College in Alberta) which involves an applied research project.  My research project is on Coast Salish spinning techniques.
