Abstract

International Medical Graduates hail from several parts of the world including the UK, Australia, and Ireland. Despite receiving comprehensive medical training and writing similar exams to North American graduates, there are still several obstacles they encounter in trying to return to Canada for work. In particular, BC makes it especially difficult for international graduates to return because of the low availability of residency spots. In the midst of a serious physician shortage that will only deteriorate further with the high number of retiring physicians, International Medical Graduates need to be able to return and help alleviate the situation.
