Abstract

The influence of the Internet is pervasive in the daily lives of many Canadians, and social media use makes up a large portion of Canadians' online activities. Internet marketing has shifted in recent years, becoming more sophisticated and customized, and often targeting online users through social media. These trends are significant in the healthcare field, as many Canadians' often turn to the Internet as their initial source of health information, and may therefore be exposed to many health marketing techniques. By becoming aware of these practices and educating patients, doctors can help patients become informed Internet users.
