Abstract

With many Canadians not being able to properly access health care as well as the growing need to cut health care spending, many specialties have had new roles emerge, changing the delivery of care. In Anesthesiology, there have been increasing roles for certified registered nurse anesthetists and anesthesia assistants in the delivery of anesthetic care. This has led to the development of the Anesthesia Care Team in Ontario which has increased access to care by decreasing time spent in hospital and has also decreased the costs to the health care system, and thus, may be the future of anesthesia care in Canada.
