Abstract

In this paper, I predominantly examine the function of the "history of education" in the context of the curricular structuring of teacher education in the late nineteenth century in continental Europe. In doing so, "History of Education" is considered as the most important part of a curricular definition of general professional Volume 2 February 2006 teacher training, which is complemented by teacher training in specific subjects . What I call general professional teacher training is that part of the teacher education curriculum that does not deal directly with later job activities, that is, teaching school subjects.
